Swedish chiptune-artist Sidstar creates his music on the road, with portable synths. His sixth record is inspired by travels to the Greek islands. Here he encountered the ancient Greek philosophical concept of “Fire, Women and Sea” (Pyr, Gyni and Thalassa), of uncertain origin and meaning.

The EP is produced with a portable tracker/sequencer, inspired by 9/8 beat Greek Rebetika music from the 1930s, 90s jungle, 8bit computer game aesthetics and electro cumbia on 7inch records, specifically those released by the label Discos Más. Thereby Sidstar follows his own tradition of obtaining freedom by means of technological limitations.

Sidstar’s Pyr Gyni Thalassa Jungle EP succeeds his earlier chiptune albums and EPs, inspired by computer games, synth legends and journeys to Spain and Japan. Previous releases (Rave Alien Invasion, In Andalucia, Costa del Dub, Will Work for Churros and In Tokyo) have been played repeatedly on Swedish National Radio (P3 med Samir, Elektroniskt i P2) as well as Student Radio and featured by Juno Records as well as iTunes. In 2019, Sidstar won a competition on Swedish National Radio for his interpretation of the psalm Glorious is the Earth (Härlig är Jorden).
