Mutamassik is a producer and musician currently based in Northern Italy, and previously in Brooklyn/ US. She has released ground breaking albums and EPs since the 1990s, and she has been a legendary turntablist DJ even longer. Mutamassik collides South Egyptian sa’aidi hardcore with jungle with baladi breakbeats with hip hop from the Bronx. The sounds have gotten deeper and darker with the years, but the rhythms remain as aggressive as ever. On her recent album “That Which Death Cannot Destroy,” Mutamassik goes more instrumental. Transpiring her translocal urban existence pounding the streets of New York City and Cairo the album is the result of generations of migration, colonization, resistance and survival. Living her politics, the Mutamassik's mission is to wake people the fuck up and make them feel something.
